Dhaka:  A young man died inhaling fume as a fire broke out at a six-storey building at Rokeya Sahrani in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Monday morning.

The victim is Mamun Miah, believed to be in his thirties.

Fire Service Control Room Inspector Atiqul Islam said the blaze broke out at a shop, ‘Parda Bilas’, on the ground floor of the building at East Monipur in Mirpur 10 at about 8:30am.

On information, six firefighting units went to the spot and doused the flame at about 9:20am.

The Mirpur Police Officer-in-charge Bhuiyan Mahbub Hasan said the firefighters rescued, Mamun, a private company employee who suffered suffocation during the fire, and took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital from where he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). But, died while being moved to the DMCH.

It was not still clear what caused the fire.
