Shubid Ali faces Tk 500 crore lawsuit for calling Zia first president
Dhaka: A defamation case involving Tk 500 crore was filed in Dhaka against Comilla Awami League lawmaker Shubid Ali Bhuiyan on Monday for calling Ziaur Rahman Bangladesh’s first president.
Jilani Sarker, an activist of Juba League, hailing from Daudkandi in Comilla district and a resident of Jatrabari in Dhaka, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satya Broto Shikder in the morning.
The court asked the officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Banglanagar Police to submit a report on it on October 13 after investigation.
According to the case statement, Shubid Ali called BNP founder Ziaur Rahman the first president of the country at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Institutions on August 17.
Citing reports published in different newspapers on August 18, the plaintiff said he was shocked at such remark which also hurt the belief of the entire Bangali nation causing a ‘loss of Tk 500 crore’.
