Shibir activist shot dead

Sirajganj: A Chhatra Shibir activist was shot dead in a clash with police at Dhanbandhi in Sirajganj early Monday amid the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami protesting at the execution of death sentence of its leader and war criminal M Kamaruzzaman.
The deceased was Anisur Rahman Anis, son of Jahangir Alam, resident of Goihatta in Ullapara, Sirajganj and an activist of the local unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Sirajganj police officer-in-charge Habibul Islam said police fired at Shibir activists as they hurled crude bombs toward them in Dhanbandi area of Ullapara upazila at about 12:30am, leaving Anis critically injured.
Later, he was rushed to sadar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 5:45am.
A case was filed in this connection.
