Chittagong factory gas leak: probe body formed
Chittagong: A three-member has been formed to investigate the gas leakage from a pipe of Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited at Anwara upazila in Chittagong that left around 200 people sick on Monday night.
District administration launched the probe committee headed by Chittagong additional district Magistrate Mominur Rashid.
The district administration and members of the probe committee will visit the spot on Tuesday.
At least 50 people fell sick inhaling poisonous gas emitted from the fertilizer factory due to leakages in a pipe carrying Di ammonium phosphate.
The factory officials, Assistant Commissioner of the Chittagong Port Zone of Police Jahidul Islam said the incident took place when the pipe got leaked at about 11:00pm.
As a result, he said, toxic gas came out from the factory and spread in the open air, leaving people adjacent to the factory area sick.
Firefighters appeared at the scene and took 30 of the sick people to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), while the rest to local clinics.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Mesbahuddin visited the CHMC after the incident.
