Narsingdi: A tribunal in Narsingdi on Tuesday sentenced six people to death for gang-raping a female employee of Pran Group at Bhatpara village under Palash upazila of Narshingdi in 2013.

The condemned convicts are Ashiqur Rahman, 35, Ilias, 21, Rumen, 20, Robin, 20, Ibrahim, 22, and Abdur Rahman, 24, son of Salam Miah. All the convicts are the residents of Bhatpara village.

The tribunal also fined each of them Tk 100,000.

According to the case statement, the victim was returning home from her workplace at about 9:00pm on 17 May 2013. As she reached Bhatpara village, the six convicts intercepted her, forcibly took her to a desolate spot and raped her by turns.

Later on 18 May, a Pran Group employee filed a rape case with Palash Police Station in connection with the incident.

After examining records and 12 witnesses, Shamima Ahmed, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Narsingdi handed down the verdict, says a UNB report.
