Dhaka: The proposed Broadcast Commission Act will soon be placed before the Cabinet for its clearance, said Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Tuesday.

‘The committee formed to prepare the draft of the broadcast act has already submitted the draft to the Information Ministry,’ he told a press conference in the PIB conference room of the Secretariat, reports UNB.

Urging the media to play a strong role in combating militancy, Inu said it can help the authorities concerned fight terrorism through dissemination of accurate information.

He informed that the government will provide assistance to the tune of Tk 1.4 crore to some 196 journalists on Wednesday from the Journalists Welfare Trust. ‘A journalist will get Tk 50,000-2 lakh,’ he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over cheques to the journalists at her office at 10:30am.
