Do not arrest Mirza Abbas till Wednesday: HC

The High Court has directed the authorities concerned not to arrest or harass Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas till Wednesday.
The court on Wednesday will hopefully pass order on Mirza Abbas’ bail appeals in two cases filed against him.
A bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore, after the hearing on the bail pleas of Mirza abbas on Sunday, fixed Wednesday for giving the order.
The court also said that Mirza Abbas will not be able to take part in the election campaign until the order is given on his bail pleas.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, AJ Mohammad Ali and Badruddoza Badal attended the hearing on behalf of Mirza Abbas.
Mirza Abbas on Sunday filed separate petitions with the High Court seeking interim bail in three cases.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon filed the bail pleas with the HC bench Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore on behalf of the BNP leader.
On 28 December 2014, police filed a case against the BNP standing committee member, Mirza Abbas, with Paltan Police Station on charge of torching a bus and exploding crude bombs.
On 4 January this year, Mothijheel police filed another case against Abbas under the Explosive Substances Act.
On 6 March last year, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the other case against some people with Shahbagh Police Station for graft allegation in plot allotment.
Although the name of Abbas was not included in the FIR, he filed the bail plea in the case ‘fearing arrest’.
The affidavit the BNP leader submitted to the Election Commission with the nomination paper shows there are 37 criminal cases against Abbas now and he was accused in 24 cases in the past.
