Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against former BNP ward commissioner MA Kayum and another accused Sohel alias Bhangari Sohel in the murder of Italian national Ceasre Tavella in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohmmad Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the order after accepting the charge sheet submitted by police.

Earlier on 28 June, police submitted the charge sheet against seven people, including Kayum and his brother Abdul Matin, in connection with the murder.

Five others named in the charge sheet are Tamjid Ahmed Rubel, Russell Chowdhury, Minhajul Arefin, also known as Bhagne Russell, Sohel alias Bhangari Sohel, supplier of firearms, and Shakhawat Hossain Sharif.

The court issued arrest warrants against them as they remained absconding since after the killing.

Kayum is a joint convener of the BNP’s Dhaka city unit and also a former ward commissioner of the erstwhile Dhaka City Corporation.

Tavella, an aid worker, was killed in Dhaka’s high diplomatic zone Gulshan on September 28 in 2015.
