ICT relocation not to affect trial proceedings: AG
Dhaka: The relocation of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) from the old building on the Supreme Court premises will not affect the trial proceedings of war criminals, says Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
‘There’s nothing to be worried about it (relocation). It’ll have no impact on the trial proceedings,’ he said while talking to reporters at a press briefing at his office on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The Supreme Court authorities have recently sent a letter to the Law Ministry asking it to shift the ICT to another place from the apex court premises due to the scarcity of space for the judges and officials of the court.
Replying to a query, the chief state law officer said there are no enough rooms for the judges in the Supreme Court. ‘The judges have to sit in the balcony.’
The case records are being preserved randomly due to the unavailability of spaces which is very risky, he added.
Asked whether the government will preserve the SC old building which is witness to various incidents, including the war crimes trial, Mahbubey Alam said, ‘Judges conduct the trial, not the building.’
