Lawsuit filed over N'ganj militant den raid
Dhaka: A case was filed with Narayanganj Sadar Police in connection with killing of three militants during special police operation in a militant’s hideout at Sadar upazila in Narayanganj on Saturday morning.
The Sadar police Officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman filed the case early on Sunday accusing killed Gulshan café attack mastermind Tamim Chowdhury and two other militants.
Abdur Razzak, inspector (investigation) of the police station, has been made investigation officer of the case, added the OC.
Three militants, including Tamim Chowdhury, were killed during the ‘Hit Strong’ police operation in a den of ‘New JMB’ in a building of Narayanganj sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The suspected Islamist militants singled out non-Muslims and foreigner hostages in the July 1 evening attack, killing Italians, Japanese, an American and an Indian before security forces stormed the eatery to end the 12-hour siege that has weighed on Bangladesh's multi-billion dollar garments industry.
The government says the July 1 attack — and another on July 26 in which police killed nine militants believed to be plotting a similar assault — were the work of domestic militants.
