2 suspected JMB members killed in Bogra ‘gunfight’

Bogra: Two suspected members of the banned Islamist militant organisation Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed in a gunfight between his associates and police at Nikhilpara village in Sherpur upazila of Bogra early on Monday.
One of the deceased is Badar alias Khaled, military commander of northern region and resident of Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj while the other is Ripon.
Tipped off that a group of JMB leaders and activists were staying in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 3:30am, said senior assistant superintendent of police (media) Gaziur Rahman.
Sensing the presence of police, the JMB men opened fire on them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, Gaziur said.
He said Khaled and his one associate were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their other associates managed to flee the scene.
Later, police recovered the bodies from the spot. They also recovered one pistol, four bullets and huge bomb-making equipment.
