Police committed to fight militants risking their lives, says IGP
Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Tuesday said Bangladesh Police is committed to work against militants and terrorism risking their lives.
The IGP said this while addressing a function to hand over financial assistance to the family members of the four policemen, who sacrificed their lives in Gulshan and Sholakia militant attacks, at Shaheed SI Shiro Mia Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Bangladesh Police Service Association handed over Tk 1.28 crore to the family members of the killed policemen and three injured cops in the two militant attacks.
Remembering the sacrifice of the four policemen, the top police official said the four cops have made us indebted by giving their lives to ensure public safety.
‘Bangladesh Police will admit their contribution with honour forever,’ he added.
He said Bangladesh police will always stand beside the family members of killed police men. ‘Let us know about any of your problems. We will always be cordial to resolve your problems,’ the IGP told the family members.
The IGP also thanked DMP Commissioner Asaduzaman Mia and leaders of Bangladesh Police Service Association to come forward to take such initiative.
He also asked the cops to ensure their own safety while performing their duties.
About the killing of militant attack mastermind Tamim Chowdhury, the IGP said Tamim was involved in every recent militant attack, including Gulshan, Sholakia and those in the northern region of the country.
The militants want to go to Jannat killing people but we know that it is not possible to go there in that way, he added.
Chaired by DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, the programme was addressed, among others, by Additional IGP (Admin and Ops) of the Police headquarters Mukhlesur Rahman, Joint Commissioner of DMP Anwar Hossain and superintendent of Gazipur police Harun-ur-Rashid, who is also the general secretary of Bangladesh Police Service Association.
