Dhaka: The Supreme Court released the full text of verdict that fined ministers Qamrul Islam and AKM Mozammel Huq Tk 50,000 each for their controversial comments about Chief Justice SK Sinha in connection with the war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali.

The full text of verdict was released on website of the apex court on Thursday after eight judges— Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Md Iman Ali, Justice Mirza Hussain Haider, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice Nizamul Haque— singed it on Wednesday.

According to majority of the judges, the two ministers violated their oath.

Five judges mentioned two minister’s comment as violation of oath while the rest three said it was not violation of oath in the copy of verdict.

On March 27, the Supreme Court fined ministers Qamrul Islam and AKM Mozammel Huq Tk 50,000 each for their controversial comments about Chief Justice SK Sinha in connection with the war crimes case against Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali.

On March 14, ministers Qamrul Islam and Mozammel Huq offered unconditional apology to the court for their remarks.

 They begged the pardon in separate applications submitted to the SC through their lawyers.

On March 8, the Supreme Court summoned the duo to appear before it on March 15 for their reactions to the remarks of Chief Justice SK Sinha about the prosecution as regards the trial Mir Quasem Ali in a war crimes case.

Qamrul and Mozammel had demanded resignation of the Chief Justice for his reported remarks that ‘the prosecution is doing politics with the trial of condemned war criminal Mir Quasem Ali’.

They made the demands at a roundtable discussion organised by Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee in the city on March 5.

During the hearing of arguments on Mir Quasem Ali's appeal petition on February 23, the Chief Justice purportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the activities of the prosecution and the investigation agency.
