‘Militant’ killed in police drive at Mirpur in Dhaka, 3 cops hurt
Dhaka: A militant was killed and three policemen were injured in a reported gunfight during a raid on a ‘militant den’ at Rupnagar area in Mirpur on Friday night.
The militant has been identified as Jahangir Alam Murad alias Major Murad, who used to work as a trainer of JMB members. He was the trainer of Gulshan and sholakia attackers, DMP additional deputy commissioner (media) Yusuf Ali told NTV Online.
Tipped off, a joint team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational (CTTU) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Rupnagar Police Station launched the drive at the ‘militant den’ in a three-storey building at about 9:30pm, DMP deputy commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman told UNB.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the militants opened fire at the police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
A militant received bullet wounds during the battle and died on the spot, he said.
The three policemen—Rupnagar OC Syed Shaheed Alam, its inspector (Investigation) Shaheen Fakir, and sub-inspector Mominur Rahman—were injured in the gunfight, said SI Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp.
They were taken to the DMCH at about 9:45pm, he said.
