Committee to probe sexual assault during Baishakhi celebration

Dhaka: A seven-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident of sexual assault at the Dhaka University campus during the Pahela Baishakh celebration.
Dhaka University public relation office in a press release issued on Thursday night declared about the formation of committee headed by the university vice-vice chancellor (education) Nasrin Ahmed.
The university authorities in the press statement urged the witnesses of the incident to submit written evidences of the harassment to Nasin Ahmed’s office by 23 April.
Earlier on 14 April some young men sexually harassed around 20 women for about an hour at the Suhrawardy Udyan gate near the TSC area around 6:00pm.
Several people were also injured as they tried to stop the youths from assaulting the women.
However, the High Court issued a rule asking what actions should be taken to punish the assaulters on Thursday. The court also ordered the police inspector general and the vice chancellor to submit reports on the incident of sexual assault within a month.
