Publisher Dipan killing ‘mastermind’ arrested
Dhaka: Detectives claimed they arrested publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder’s suspected mastermind Abdus Sabur in Tongi’s railway station area on Saturday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Yusuf Ali told NTV Online Sabur alias Raju alias Samad was one of the masterminds behind Dipan killing.
A press conference will be organised at DMP media centre at about 11:30am in the connection, said a police official.
Earlier, on 24 August, Dipan murder’s prime accused Shamim was arrested in Gazipur’s Tongi.
The arrestee, Shamim alias Somir alias Imran, with Tk2 lakh bounty on him is a top leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
A team of the Detective Branch arrested Shamim from Cherag Ali area of Tongi early in the morning, said Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
On 20 May, the DMP authorities announced a bounty for information leading to the arrest of alleged six kingpins of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, including Shamim, who were reportedly involved in the murders of secular bloggers, writers and publishers in recent times.
Faisal Arefin Dipan, owner of Jagriti Publications and son of Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq of Dhaka University, was hacked to death in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh in the capital on 31 October last year.
Dipan was the publisher of a book titled ‘Biswaser Virus’ (Virus of Faith) written by blogger and founder of Mukto-Mona blog Avijit Roy, who was also hacked to death around eight months ago on 26 February, 2015 near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus during Ekushey Book Fair.
