Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday congratulated the Bangladesh girls’ football team for their stupendous performances en route to qualifying for the Asian U-16 Women’s Championship finals.

The Bangladesh girls sealed their berth beating their strongest opponents in Group C, Chinese Taipei, 4-2 in a superb contest befitting what was at stake at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.

Having steamrollered each of their previous opponents, both sides entered the game knowing the winners on Saturday would be the ones going to China, where the finals will be held next year. Playing at home, the Bangladeshi girls did not disappoint.    

In a congratulatory message, PM Hasina hoped that the team would now maintain their winning spree in the finals— which will also serve as the qualifying tournament for FIFA’s Under-17 World Championship—imbued with patriotism.

Sheikh Hasina called on the players to always practise hard with a view towards enhancing their skills.
