Keraniganj: A mobile court in Keraniganj on Sunday sentenced a young man to 15 days’ imprisonment for attempting to marry an underage girl at Ati Nayabazar in Keraniganj upazila on the outskirts of Dhaka.

The convict is Shafiqul Islam, believed to 28 years old.

On information that a 14-year-old girl was about to be married off at Ati Nayabazar on Sunday afternoon, Upazilla assistant commissioner (land) Anjan Kumar Sarkar went to the function that was arranged at her father’s residence.

The assistant commissioner set up a mobile court at the girl’s house and gave punishment to the bridegroom.
