Dhaka: Two Dhaka University students drowned in the Padma River near Mainatghat in Dohar upazila in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The deceased students are: Abrar Nirjhar, 21, and Ahmed Hasan, 20, first year bachelor students of the DU economics department.

Talking to UNB, DU acting proctor Professor Amzad Hossain said a group of 14 students of the department went to Mainatghat around 3:00pm to hang out on the riverbank.

Abrar and Hasan were washed away by strong current when they along with other students were taking bath in the river.

On information, a firefighting team rushed in and recovered the bodies from the river around 5:30pm.
