4 killed in road crashes in Nilphamari, Jessore

Dhaka: Four people died in road accidents in Nilphamari and Jessore districts on Tuesday, reports UNB.

In Nilphamari, two workers of Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) were killed and another was injured in a road accident on the Nilphamari-Sayadpur highway in Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased are Afjal Hossain, 30, son of Kamal Ansari of Colony area of the district town, and Dharoni Kanto Roy, 22, son of Joyhori Kanto Roy of Bherbheri Goalpara village in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur district while the injured was Biswanath.

Sadar police officer-in-charge Babul Akter said the Nilphamari-bound bus of ‘Shakil Paribahan’ coming from Dhaka crashed into three bicycles riding three workers of the EPZ from behind in front of Daroani Textile mill at about 9:00am while they were going to their workplace, leaving them critically injured.

They were first taken to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Afjal and Dharoni dead.

Locals seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene.

In Jessore, two students died on the spot and another suffered injuries as a lorry rammed a motorcycle on Jessore-Khulna highway in front of Jessore Trading in Padmabila area in the district town at about 1:15pm, said Officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Ilias Hossain.

The deceased are Shakil, 12, son of Lutfar Rahman of Jirat village, and Himel, 13, son of Abdullah Sheikh of Chaulia village in Sadar upazila and the injured is Sayeed, 12.

Shakil and Himel were class VII and VIII students of Rupdia Welfare School in the upazila.

Critically injured Sayeed was admitted to Jessore Medical Hospital.
