Dhaka: An employee of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was held carrying 30 gold bars of around 3.45kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The arrestee is Liakat Ali, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft mechanic.

Airport authorities said Liakat hid the seized gold bars in his shoes after he landed in an Emirates Airlines flight, during which he hid them under a seat.

On being tipped off, customs intelligence challenged Liakat and seized 30 gold bars from 3 packets searching his body, said airport officials.

The grabbed gold bars worth around Taka 1.75crore.

A case will be filed in this connection.
