15 killed in road crashes across country

Relatives burst into tears at Sirajganj Sadar Hospital as three women were killed and 23 other people injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus on the western side of the Bangabandhu Bridge connecting road at Choirgati in Kamarkhanda, Sirajganj early Saturday.

Seven people were killed as a private car got crushed between two buses on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Barbaria bus stand area of Dhamrai upazila at about 2:15pm on Saturday.

All the seven people, killed in the crash, were the passengers of the private car. A child was also injured in the accident.

The deceased are Monowar Hossain, his wife Farida Begum, son Meshkat, daughter Samiha, grandson Towa, sister-in-law Delera Begum and driver Faruk Hossain.

Police said a Shohag Paribahan bus hit the Manikganj-bound private car from the back. The private car got struck and crushed when another bus of Asha Paribahan hit it from the front. Four people died on the spot.

Four other injured people were admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where three died undergoing treatment. The injured child has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.

 

Bogra: Three people were killed and another was injured in two separate road accidents in Dhunat and Sadar upazilas of Bogra on Saturday morning.

The first accident occurred at about 9:00 am when a brick-laden truck hit a motorcycle in Sonahata area on the Dhunat-Bogra road under Dhunat upazila, leaving motorcycle rider Momtaj Uddin and his wife Sefali Khatun dead on the spot and another injured, said Gaziur Rahman, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bogra.

The injured was sent to Saheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Another accident took place at about 9:30 am when a bus crushed a motorcycle rider in Khandar area of the district town, leaving him dead on the spot.

The deceased is Omar Faruk of Koigari Purbapara area in the town.

Police recovered the body and sent to hospital morgue.

 

Sirajganj: Three women were killed and 23 other people injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus on the western side of the Bangabandhu Bridge connecting road at Choirgati in Kamarkhanda, Sirajganj early Saturday.

Among three deceased, one was known as China Begum, resident of Patharkhada village, Kurigram. Identities of the left could not be known immediately.

Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station officer-in-charge (investigation) Mostafizur Rahman said a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Anik Paribahan’ from Rangpur collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the area at about 2:30am, leaving three women, passengers of the bus, dead on the spot and 23 other people injured.

The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and different clinics.

Police seized the truck while its driver and helper managed to flee the scene.

A case was filed in this connection.

 

Chittagong: An 8-year old girl was killed in a road accident in the city's Patenga sea beach area on Saturday morning.

The deceased is Sumaya Begum of Nazir Para area under city's Patenga thana.

Police said Sumaya was critically injured as a speedy battery-run auto-rickshaw hit her while she was crossing the road near Patenga sea beach at about 10:30am.

She was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared her dead.

 

Mymensingh: A pickup van driver was killed in a road accident in Maizbari area on Mymensingh-Muktagacha road under sadar upazila of the district this morning.

The victim is Ali Asgar of Bajat Kutubpur in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj.

Police said the accident occurred when his pickup van collided head-on with a Mymensingh-bound truck at Maizbari at about 8:00am, leaving him dead on the spot.

The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police seized both the vehicles but the truck driver managed to flee.

A case was filed in this connection.
