Former bank employee among 5 bank-note forgers held in Dhaka
Dhaka: A gang of forgers that include a former bank employee was held on Thursday with an estimated 10,000 counterfeit Tk 1,000 notes.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the five forgers, including an ex-Agrani Bank official, at Banasree and Jurain areas in Dhaka on early Thursday.
The arrestees are Abdur Rashid, a former bank official, Dulal Miah, Sarwar Hossain, Fatema Akter and Rubina Begum.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan of the media wing of the RAB Headquarters said on a tipped off, a team of RAB-1 arrested the five members of the note counterfeiting gang in separate drives in Banasree and Jurain areas.
Sources at the RAB-1 Headquarters said a RAB team carried out a drive at a house of South Banasree and arrested Fatema and Rubina along with fake notes of TK 78 lakh and forged money making equipment.
Following their statements, the elite force conducted another drive at Jurain and arrested the three others. They also recovered fake notes of Tk 25 lakh and other materials from their possessions.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they were involved in making forged currency in the city for a long time.
