337 Bangladeshis return home from Yemen
Dhaka: A total of 337 Bangladeshis returned home in the early hours of Sunday after being evacuated from war-torn Yemen.
Two special flights of Bangladesh Biman carrying the passengers landed at Shahjalal International Airport from Kerala, India at about 4:30am. State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam received the Bangladeshis at the airport.
‘We greeted 190 of them who safely arrived home from Yemen in the first flight at 4:30 am and received 147 who came in second flight. By the grace of almighty Allah, they are all safe and sound,’ Shahriar wrote on his Facebook page.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon the Bangladeshi nationals reached Indian Sea Port Kochi in Kerala.
Indian ship, for their eventual repatriation to Bangladesh, left African nation Djibouti on 12 April.
Bangladeshis were evacuated from Saana, Hodeida and Aden by Indian Naval Ships (INS). There were 272 Bangladeshis in a ship, ‘MV Corals’, and 65 in another ship, ‘MV Kavaratti’.
Out of 337, there are 14 women and 13 children.
Earlier, 21 Bangladesh nationals returned home from war-torn Yemen in two groups.
Meanwhile, some 136 Bangladeshi nationals, including five women and four children, were evacuated from Hodeida, Yemen on Wednesday by an INS, arrived safely at Djibouti on Thursday.
Bangladesh Ambassador in Kuwait, stationed in Djibouti, received them at the sea port, said a media release.
Bangladesh Foreign Ministry is arranging their food, shelter and other logistics in Djibouti. The ministry is also arranging their onward journey from Djibouti to Dhaka by a special flight of Bangladesh Biman which is scheduled to operate on 20 April.
