20 hurt after falling from train roof in Sirajganj

Pabna: Around 20 passengers were injured as they fell from the roof of a moving train in Sirajganj on Friday morning.
Identities of the injured could not be known immediately.
Railway authorities said the accident occurred when around 20 passengers travelling on the roof of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express train from Dhaka fell when they slammed into overhead telephone cables, dish cables and electric twines at about 11:00am at Kodda’s intersection near Shahid M Monsur Ali station.
Police and fire fighters went recovered the injured and sent them to Sadar Hospital and adjacent clinics.
Sirajganj railway (GRP) police Officer-in-charge Sayeed Iqbal said around 15 to 20 passengers fell from the top of the train.
However, local people claimed around 40 passengers fell from the roof.
Sirajganj Sadar Hospital resident physician Dr Akramuzzaman said around 17 injured passengers were admitted to the hospital with broken arms and legs.
