Dhaka: A total of 33 Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims died of various reasons in Saudi Arabia as of 8 September this year.

Of them, 24 were males and nine females, according to a bulletin of the hajj management portal under the Religious Affairs Ministry, reports UNB.

It said 24 hajj pilgrims died in Makkah while eight in Medina and one in Jeddah.

The latest recorded death was of Shyader Rahman, 76, hailing from Comilla. He died at Makkah on 7 September.

Besides, 17 other Bangladeshi pilgrims currently remained hospitalised in Saudi Arabia.

According to the bulletin, a total of 101,829 Bangladeshi pilgrims, including the management team, have reached Saudi Arabia as of Thursday to perform hajj billed for 11 September.

Of them, 95,614 went to Saudi Arabia under private management while 5,183 under government arrangement.
