Dhaka: One suspected militant was killed and eight people, including five policemen and three female 'militants', were injured in an encounter during a drive at a ‘den of militants’ in Azimpur area of Dhaka on Saturday, reports UNB.

Additional Commissioner Shahabuddin Quraishee, who went to the spot just after the incident, told reporters that one ‘militant’ was killed during the shootout.

The policemen—all constables—injured during the shootout are Shahjahan, Mahtab Uddin, Zahir Uddin, Bablu and Ram Chandra.

Tipped off, a team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime(CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) launched the drive at the den at 209/5, Azimpur Road in the area around 8pm, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.

When the law enforcers tried to enter the house, some ‘militants’ hacked the policemen with sharp weapons and opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate that triggered the shootout.

Five policemen and three female militant suspects were injured in the fight, he said.

They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
