A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his associates and police at Srikhandalia in Ashulia area in Savar on early Sunday.

The deceased is identified as Anwar Hossain.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-charge Mohsinul Qadir said on secret information that a gang of robbers was preparing to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 4:30am.

Sensing presence of police, the bandits opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Anwar dead.

Police recovered the body.

The law enforcers also recovered one foreign-made pistol, three other country-made firearms, six bullet shells and three rounds of bullet from the spot.
