ACC seeks Indonesian anti-corrupt body’s support
Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought cooperation from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia to increase its capacity to fight graft in Bangladesh.
ACC chairman Iqbal Mamood came up with the request during a views-exchange meeting with KPK officials at KPK head office in Jakarta on Thursday, said an ACC press release on Friday.
During the meeting, the KPK officials informed the visiting ACC delegation that the KPK with support from general people is bringing government officials allegedly involved in mega graft scams to justice and ensuring their punishment.
After the meeting, Iqbal Mahmood told a joint press conference that corruption is a global challenge as it is there in almost all the countries.
He said the ACC wants to utilise the experiences of KPK in fighting graft in Indonesia as it will help bring positive change in Bangladesh. ‘We want to learn from KPK to know how it has been working in checking corruption in Indonesia,’ the ACC chief added.
Replying to a question, Iqbal Mahmood said the ACC and KPK discussed ways to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase cooperation between the two anti-graft bodies.
