Seven people were killed and several others injured on Saturday in separate road accidents in Tangail.

Five people, including a woman and her son, were killed and 12 more people injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck at Kurni on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway on Saturday morning.

Three of the deceased are Rahima Begum, 32, a resident of Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district, her son Bayzid, 7, and Salma Begum, 24, wife of Mominur Rahman, of Mohadebpur village in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram.

Gorai Highway Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Khalilur Rahman Patwary said a passenger carrying bus was going to Dhaka from Kurigram in the morning.

When the bus reached Kurni, it collided head-on with a Tangail-bound truck at about 7:00am, leaving the woman and the child dead on the spot and 15 other people injured.

The injured were taken to hospital where Salma and two unidentified young men succumbed to their injuries, the OC added.

In another accident, two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on collision with a microbus at Analia Bari on the Bangabandhu Bridge connecting road in Kalihati upazila on Saturday morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Elegna Highway Police Station in-charge Sergeant Jahangir Alam said two people were going to Dhaka riding a motorcycle in the morning.

When they reached Analia Bari, a microbus, coming from the opposite direction, hit them at about 9:00am, leaving the duo dead on the spot.
