Charges pressed against 8 Muktagaccha war crimes suspects

Dhaka: The prosecution on Sunday submitted seven charges against eight people of Muktagacha in Mymensingh for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

The prosecution submitted the charges before the three-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal headed by Justice Anwarul Haq.

The ICT bench fixed October 17 to decide whether it would take the charges into cognisance.

The eight war crimes suspects are Rezaul Karim, ABM Yunus Ali, Yusuf Ali, Omar Ali, Belayet Hossain, Nasir Uddin, Kazi Badruzzaman and Ismail. Of them Rezaul Karim, ABM Yunus Ali, Yusuf Ali, Omar Ali were in jail where the others remained absconding.

On December 9, 2015, the International Crimes Tribunal issued warrants for the arrest of the eight war crimes suspects for their alleged involvement in crimes like murder, rape, torture, looting and arson attack in Muktagacha in Mymensingh during the Liberation War in 1971.

On April 1, a case was filed against them.
