BNP-backed councillor aspirant arrested

Police arrested Osman Gani, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party backed councilor candidate on Monday afternoon from Hazaribagh area in Dhaka.
This is the third of such arrest after the electioneering for 28 April polls for Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporations began.
The arrestee Osman Gani, commonly known as Shahjahan, is the councilor candidate of ward no 34 under Dhaka North City Corporation. Currently, he is the president of ward 47 Juba Dal, youth wing of BNP.
Dhaka Metropolitan police acting deputy commissioner for media and public relations SM Jahangir Alam Sarker said that Shahjahan was arrested from Modhu Bazar area in Hazaribagh at about 3:00pm in charge of saboteur activities.
Hazaribagh officer in charge Kazi Mainul Islam said that Shahjahan was arrested as he was fugitive accused in an explosive case filed in 2013.
Earlier on 16 and 18 April, police arrested BNP backed two councilor aspirants Kazi Hasibul Islam and ALM Kawser Ahmed from the city.
