Sayeed Khokon fined for violating electoral code

Dhaka: The Election Commission has fined Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation election Sayeed Khokon Tk 8000 for violating the election code of conduct.
A mobile court fined Khokon for sticking posters and conducting election campaign unlawfully on Sunday, according to the EC’s factsheets sent to the media houses on Monday night.
Assistant returning officer of DSCC election Rashedul Islam also confirmed the incident to UNB.
Besides, the commission also imposed Tk 8000 fines on three other candidates in the DSCC areas on the day for breaching the polls code by attaching posters and using loudspeakers unlawfully.
Meanwhile, the commission punished two candidates Tk 3500, and warned another in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) area on Sunday for attaching posters and stickers on cars and bringing out procession.
In Chittagong City Corporation areas, the commission fined nine candidates a total of Tk 46,000 for violation of the election code of conduct on the same day.
