Cox’s Bazar: Two minor siblings drowned in the Bay of Bengal while collecting firewood at Haser Char in Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

The deceased are Abu Taleb, 6, son of Mohammad Ullah alias Madu, and his sister Nahida Akhter of Saraitala area in the upazila.

Dhalghata union council member Abdul Aziz said Madu along with his daughter and son went to Haser Char at noon to collect firewood.

Taleb and Nahida were washed away by tidal water while retuning along with the firewood.

Later, locals and fishermen recovered their bodies entangled in fishing net at about 5:00pm.
