Saleh Choudhury elected new CJA Bangladesh president
Dhaka: The Commonwealth Journalist Association (CJA) Bangladesh branch at a general meeting has elected noted journalist Saleh Choudhury as its new president.
He has replaced former Associated Press (AP) Bureau Chief Farid Hossain who has already taken up his new diplomatic assignment as Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. Mr. Choudhury, who is also a freedom fighter, has been CJA Bangladesh chapter’s vice president since it was formed in 1997.
Columnist Choudhury was a senior assistant editor of the now-defunct Dainik Bangla.
He attended CJA’s conference in Hong Kong in 1997.
Hassan Shahriar, a two-term CJA’s international President, thanked all the CJA members in Bangladesh for electing a veteran journalist as the president of the prestigious group of journalists.
Shahriar, a President Emeritus, also wished Choudhury good luck in his new journey.
The participants and all the CJA members lauded the contribution of Farid Hossain to the organization.
The meeting was attended by Hassan Shahriar, Bangladesh chapter’s General Secretary and Vice President of CJA International Committee, Shyamol Dutta, Joint Secretary, Bangladesh Chapter and Executive Member of CJA International Committee, Osman Gani Mansur and members including Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Chapal Bashar, Perveen Ahmed, Subash Chandra Badal, Julhas Alam, Saiful Huda, Saiful Amin and Abdur Rahman Khan.
