Brahmanbaria: A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Satbaria in Sadar upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased is Uzzal, in his thirties.

The Sadar a gang of criminals, including Uzzal, was staying in a brickfield; a team of police launched a drive in the area at about 12:45am.

Sensing the presence of the police team, Uzzal and his accomplices opened fire at them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate with gunfight, leaving Uzzal injured with bullets.

Uzzal’s other associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, police recovered injured Uzzal and took him to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Uzzal was wanted in several cases, including for murder, said the police.

Three police members were also injured during the gunfight.

Police also recovered a pistol, three bullets and 11 crude bombs from the spot.
