Parliament adopts obituary reference on distinguished personalities
Dhaka: The 10th parliament on the first day of its 12th session on Sunday unanimously adopted obituary references on a number of distinguished personalities, including two former state ministers and four MPs.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references separately with brief resumes on those who died since prorogation of the 11th session of the 10th parliament.
The Speaker while moving the references said the House expresses its deep shock at the deaths of a former member of constitution framing committee and lawmaker M Abdur Rahim, two former state ministers M Korban Ali and M Fazlur Rahman Patal, four former lawmakers Professor MA Mannan, Ali Reza Raju, Abdur Razzak Khan and Manabendra Narayan Larma and a driver of the parliament secretariat M Biplob Hossain.
The House also condoled the death of poet Shahid Quadri, complainant of the Bangabandhu Murder Case freedom fighter AFM Mohitul Islam, Awami League leader Professor Nazma Rahman, freedom fighter Shirin Banu Mitil, legendary boxer Mohammad Ali, friend of liberation war Sydney Schonberg, former vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Sadruddin Ahmed Chawdhury and actor Farid Ali.
Besides, the house condoled the deaths people in a boiler explosion at Tampaco Foils Factory at Tongi, launch capsize in the Sandhya River at Banaripara in Barishal.
The Speaker conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved families and prayed for peace of his departed souls.
The lawmakers also observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls. Later, a prayer session was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls.
