Barisal: A suspected leader of a robber gang was killed in a reported gunfight with police in front of Kundu Bari on Bakerganj-Barguna Road in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal early on Monday.

The deceased is Khokon Khan, a leader of a robber gang, also a resident of Bhabanipur area of the upazila.

Superintendent of police Akhtaruzzaman said tipped off, police conducted a drive in the area while the robber gang was taking preparation to commit robbery in the early hours of Monday.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members fired gunshots at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, which triggered a gunfight, leaving Khokon dead on the spot.

The law enforcers also recovered one-shooter gun, one pipe gun, two sharp weapons and nine bullets from the spot.

Khokon was wanted in 16 cases including for robbery and murder, added the SP.
