Dhaka: A Bangladesh-born German citizen was detained carrying nine firearms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Dhaka Customs House Assistant Commissioner HM Ahsanul Kabir said Bangladesh-origin German citizen Monir Ben Al arrived at the airport at about 9:45am from Dubai by a flight of Emirates Airlines.

Being tipped off, he said customs officials challenged him in the airport’s green channel area, and recovered the firearms searching his luggage.

Ahsan said they are also questioning another Bangladesh-origin German citizen Aminul Islam, who arrived at the airport by the same flight, suspecting his involvement in it.
