Dhaka: The nine militants, killed during a police operation in Kalyanpur area in Dhaka on 26 July, were buried at Jurain Graveyard in the city on Wednesday as no one claimed their bodies, reports UNB.

Eight of the militants were identified as Abdullah, Abu Hakim Nayeem, Tajul Haque Rashik, Aqifuzzaman Khan, Shehjad Rauf, Md Matiur Rahman, and Md Zubair Hossain and Raihan Kabir. The identity of another could not be known.

‘The nine militants were buried as unclaimed bodies at Jurain Graveyard at bout 3:00pm with the help of charitable organisation Anjuman Mufidul Islam as no one from the families of the slain militants contacted the law enforcers to receive their bodies,’ said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman.

Earlier, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) handed over the bodies of the nine militants to Anjuman Mufidul Islam representatives at about 11:30am in the presence of Counter Terrorism and Transnational (CTTU) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police inspector Jahangir, said sub-inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police camp.

The nine militants were killed during the police raid on the 4th floor of a 6-storey building ‘Taj Manjil’ in the city’s Kalyanpur area on 26 July.

The Kalyanpur incident took place 26 days after the terror attack on Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery that claimed the lives of 20 hostages, including 9 Italians, seven Japanese nationals, one US citizen and an Indian. Five attackers were also killed in law enforcer’s operation.

The five attackers and a chef of the restaurant were buried at Jurain Graveyard by Anjuman Mufidul Islam on 22 September, as no one showed up since their killing to claim their bodies.
