Dhaka: Minister for Public Administration Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be greeted only with flowers.

‘What the Banglaee nation got from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, none could deliver the same. She has been working relentlessly round the clock. We have taken decision that we can’t give anything to her in return to her work for the country and its people. We will felicitate her by giving her flowers only,’ he said.

Syed Ashraf, also general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by Dhaka North City Awami League (AL) at Ward-4 Community Centre at Kafrul in Mirpur in the city marking the 70th birthday of Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Dhaka North City AL President AKM Rahamatullah presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, international affairs secretary Col (Retd) Faruque Khan, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Dhaka North City mayor Annisul Haque and Dhaka North City AL general secretary Sadek Khan.

Speaking at the discussion, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said, ‘There shouldn’t be relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan. People of the country would think whether diplomatic relations should be maintained with the killers of 1971 in future.’

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, ‘There were 19 attempts on the life of Sheikh Hasina. That’s why we should keep in our mind always the matter relating to her security. I am requesting you to follow and maintain the instructions of the law enforcement agencies on Friday regarding our leader’s security. Sheikh Hasna’s alternative is only Sheikh Hasina herself.’

After the discussion, special munajat (prayer) was offered wishing welfare of Sheikh Hasina on the occasion.
