Juba Dal leader Shah Alam was shot to death in a reported gunfight with police at Birulia of Savar in the outskirt of Dhaka early on Saturday. Photo: Collected

Savar: A Juba Dal leader was shot to death in a reported gunfight with police at Birulia of Savar in the outskirt of Dhaka in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased is Shah Alam, in his forties, an organising secretary of Savar municipality Juba Dal. Shah Alam was a resident of Malancha area in Savar municipality.

Police claimed Shah Alam was wanted in around 18 cases including a murder case.

The Savar Police said Shah Alam was arrested from Savar on Friday afternoon.

Police said Shah Alam’s associated opened fire to police on Friday night, when they took Shah Alam with them during a drive conducted to recover arms.

Police also fired them back. Later, Shah Alam was found dead on the spot at about 3:00am.

The Savar police officer-in-charge (OC) SM Kamruzzaman said the body was kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
