BNP recalls Hannan Shah’s contributions
Dhaka: BNP arranged a prayer session in Dhaka on Saturday seeking eternal peace of its standing committee member Hannan Shah’s departed soul.
The programme was held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office after Asr prayers which was attended by over 100 leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies, reports UNB.
BNP standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Tariqul Islam, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan, among others, attended it.
In a brief address, Mosharraf said, ‘Hannan Shah was a base of BNP and a symbol of the nationalist force. He was also a vanguard of the party during its bad time.’
Recalling his strong position in favour of BNP when it faced serious crisis after the 1/11 political changeover, he said, ‘He (Hannan Shah) had played a brave role in favour of BNP at that time. We won’t forget it.’
He also said Hannan Shah’s demise is an irreparable loss for BNP.
Later, a munajat was offered seeking salvation of the departed soul of the BNP leader.
Hannan Shah, a military officer-turned politician, died at Raffles Heart Centre in Singapore early Tuesday at the age of 77.
BNP observed a four-day mourning programme from Tuesday to Friday by hoisting black flags and keeping the party flag at half-mast atop its offices across the country following the demise of its veteran leader.
Meanwhile, the qulkhawani of Hannan Shah was held at his Mohakhai DOHS residence after Maghrib prayers today.
BNP will hold a meeting in memory of Hannan Shah at the institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on October 4.
After his retirement from Bangladesh Army, Hannan Shah joined BNP in 1983 and was made Dhaka city unit BNP’s joint convener, and inducted in the cabinet when BNP came to power in 1991.
He had also been elected MP twice from Gazipur-4 constituency.
