Chandpur: A local mosque imam was stabbed to death by a young man at Sirajkhan village in Kachua upazila of Chandpur on Sunday morning.

The victim was Shah Alam alias Shahahb Ali, 65, an imam and resident of the village. He was also a teacher of local Forkania Madrasah.

Chandpur additional superintendent of police Ashrafuzzaman said the young man, Ronny, came to his house around 6.30am while Alam was teaching Arabic to his students.

At one stage, he stabbed the imam indiscriminately which left him critically injured. He was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Locals caught Ronny and handed him over to police.
