Savar: A local Juba leader was found dead near the River Turag at Kaundia Shingasshwar village at Savar in the outskirts of Dhaka early on Thursday.

The deceased is Arafat Sajal, in his twenties, member of Birulia Juba League ward 6.

Arafat’s body was found lying at Mamun Mia’s plot near the bank of the river with both hands and feet tied.

Birulia union council Chairman Saidur Rahman Shujan said a local miscreant named Rocy called Sajal on 3 October night and asked him to meet outside. Later, Rocky along with his associates killed Sajal by beating him with iron rod and shot him. The miscreants tied Sajal’s hands and feet and floated him in the river, said the UC chairman.

However, the relatives of Sajal filed a general diary with Savar Model police as he was missing since 3 October night.

Fishermen spotted Sajal’s body floating in River Turag on Thursday morning and called police.

Police went to the spot and recovered the body.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
