Youth to die for killing child after rape in M’singh
Mymensingh: A court in Mymensingh on Thursday convicted a young man and sentenced him to death for killing and raping a minor girl in 2013.
The convict is Jashim Uddin, 20, son of Gias Uddin, a resident of Solonga village in Phulpur upazila. The court also fined him Tk one lakh.
Advocate Kabir Uddin Bhuiyan, public prosecutor of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, said Jashim violated two and a half-year-old girl Jonaki Akhter, daughter of Emdadul Haque of the village, and strangulated her to death on 26 July 2013.
Later, the body was recovered from a jungle near her house.
Victim’s father filed a case with Phulpur Police Station the following day.
Later, the convict confessed to his crime before a court.
Following his confessional statement, police submitted a chargesheet against Jashim.
After examining the records and witnesses, Helal Uddin, judge of the tribunal, handed down the verdict.
