The condition of college girl Khadiza Akter Nargis, who was injured critically in a knife attack by a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Badrul, has slightly improved after the 96-hour observation.

Her survival chance is high, but will take time for her to recover fully, said Dr AM Rezaus Sattar, a physician of Square Hospital.

The physician said she could move her hands and legs slightly and responds with her right eye.

However, specialist physicians expected the wounds on Khadiza’s brain will be mended gradually as she is young.

Earlier, Square Hospital assistant director Mirza Nazim Uddin said she has only 5 per cent chance of survival.

Khadiza Akter Nargis, a student of Sylhet Government Women’s College, was critically injured in an attack allegedly by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from college following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.

Hearing the victim’s screams, local people rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.

Khadiza was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Square Hospital on 4 October as her condition deteriorated.
