One dies as earthquake stirs panic

Sherpur: An elderly man died and two others injured while rushing out of house in panic as a mild earthquake shook the country on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Haider Ali alias Nantu of Betmari-Ghughurakandi union of sadar upazila in Sherpur.
Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, chairman of Betmari-Ghughurakandi union parishad said Nantu died of cardiac arrest as he got panicked while coming out of his house as the tremor hit the country at 1:12 pm.
In another incident, Elina Begum, a class VII student of Garkanda Mahila Madrasa and Ishrat Jahan Pervin, a teacher of Hironmoyi High School in Nalitabari upaizla were injured as they scrambled to come out of a two-storey building during the earthquake.
Earlier on Saturday, five people died and over 200 others injured amid panic as a powerful earthquake jolted the capital and other parts of the country.
