Jessore: Miscreants shot an Awami League activist to death in the Khitibdia area of Sadar upazila in Jessore on Monday morning.

The deceased is Ejaj Ahmed, in his forties, a resident of the village of Jhaudia in Churamonkati union.

The union’s Chairman Mannan Munna said Ejaj was an active member of Awami League.

Ejaj’s relatives said a gang of around six miscreants on two motorcycles halted Ejaj near Khitibdia and shot him when he was returning home from Jessore town at about 8:15am on Monday. Later, local people took him to Jessore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The physicians said the miscreants shot Ejaj on his head.

The Jessore Kotwali police Officer-in-charge Ilias Hossain said police went to the spot immediately after the incident.

Earlier, on 18 November 2014, Ejaj’s brother Shahidul Islam, also an Awami League activist, was hacked to death by miscreants.
