Businessman held for funding militant organisation
Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday arrested a businessman, Manzur Elahi, from Dhaka’s Uttara last night for financing militant outfit Shaheed Hamza Brigade.
Assistant Director (Media Wing) of RAB Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan said the businessman provided money to Moniruzzaman Masud, a leader of the new militant organisation.
The detained was a readymade garment businessman who gave Taka five lakhs to the outfit militant group for subversive activates in the country, Lieutenant Colonel Mitta Uddin Ahmed, a RAB official said.
The RAB team arrested Manzur Elahi from an Uttara residence under West Thana at about 10:00pm last night.
He said Manzur transferred Taka four lakhs through Islami Bank at Nizamuddin Road Branch in Chittagong to Moniruzzaman Masud’s account in September 2014 along with cash Taka 80,000.
Ahmed also said that the businessman is now under RAB custody.
